If a Bayes net is auto-updating, then whenever its beliefs become invalid, perhaps due to entering new findings, they are automatically recalculated (provided the net is compiled).  Since updating may be time consuming, you may prefer to only have the net updated when you manually request it.  The default for new nets is that they are auto-updating.  More Info
